You’ve come this far — you’re ready to make a change. But where will you begin?

Are you drawn into relationships with people who don’t understand you?
Do you feel defective at your core?
Do you feel out of touch with your needs?
Do you anticipate bad things happening to you?
Do you feel unfulfilled despite the acceptance of others?

These patterns of repetition can be understood as relational blueprints, referred to as schemas.

“Schemas are deeply entrenched beliefs about ourselves and the world, learned early in life. To give up our belief in a schema would be to surrender the security of knowing who we are and what the world is like; therefore we cling to it, even when it hurts us.”

-Jeffrey E. Young, Schema Therapy: A Practitioner’s Guide

The work of Schema Therapy consists of exploring imagery — memories from childhood, interactions that left an impact, or even powerful emotional experiences. Through role play techniques, we will engage with these images to gain awareness, understanding, and a sense of how to move forward.

I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at Antioch University. My therapeutic style is oriented toward clients who are open to exploring their history, their personality, and the needs of their inner child.
