Debra Purvis

Counselor

Specialties: Partners of Sex addicts, Trauma of all kinds including Dissociative Disorders and PTSD, Codependency, Depression, Anxiety disorders, and personal Spiritual Issues.

History: Growing up in a home with a mother who was a licensed professional therapist, I was encouraged to use counseling as a resource throughout my life, but I had no intentions of working in the field. After a couple of years of teaching, I realized I was more interested in working with the students’ hearts rather than their minds. I enrolled at UNT and received a counseling degree and license. As a result to my own life healing experiences, I was invited to work with Dr. Doug Weiss helping partners of sex addicts. My desire was not to only see people get free from codependency and addictions, but also heal the root causes behind the issues. So, in 2003 I received extensive training from Pia Melody who developed the revolutionary work to heal core issues behind dysfunctional behavior.

In the last 10 years I have been impressed with the research findings in Neuroscience. Science has proven that humans have power to rewire their brains and change their quality of life, relationships, spirituality and even physical health. Using this basic understanding and specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Post-Traumatic Induction Therapy(PIT), Right Brain Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), I have successfully worked with clients suffering from many disorders including PTSD and/or Dissociative Identity Disorder.

My heart is to see people discover who they were created to be. When I see people, I don’t just see their wounds and brokenness. I see their value, strengths, and passions. I believe abuse, addiction, or brokenness cannot diminish a person’s value or prohibit their options for restoration. I work everyday with courageous clients who face the pain, shame and compulsions to gain personal freedom to become who they desire to be.

My Motto: “If you knew who God created you to be, you would never want to be anyone else.” B. Johnson
